As a therapist, I have had the opportunity to provide support and encouragement to people as they face life challenges, and I have assisted them in their journeys toward growth and wellness. My approach is warm, compassionate, and genuine, and my focus is holistic, allowing all aspects of your wellness to be addressed. It is important to me to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment so you feel comfortable while working through your areas of concern. Through counseling and education, my passion is to empower you to be the best version of yourself.
I foundationally work from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) perspectives, and am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a specialized training addressing trauma. As we work together, I may utilize other techniques to meet your unique needs. My specialties include trauma (PTSD), grief, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, emotional distress, and relationship issues. I have experience working with individuals from various backgrounds, so I am sensitive to your value and belief systems when helping you accomplish your goals. A person's transition to wellness through personal growth is remarkable to observe, and it happens every day.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and help you realize your hopes and dreams!
Working with families, students, & individuals over the years has taught me that taking the first step in seeking help & guidance can be very rewarding. I hope to be a source of support in this endeavor. I will be with you providing guidance as you learn to navigate life & all that it may hold. During my work as a professional high school counselor, I have had experience working with countless students encountering a variety of challenges. Working with students sparked my desire to invest in both children & adults’ lives on a deeper & more consistent level.
I have experience in counseling individuals with anxiety & depression. It has been my joy to assist them as they develop coping skills that work for their needs. I enjoy working with families to improve cohesion. During these sessions, I have taught behavioral skills to the children & helped the parents explore techniques that work best for their family. I operate from both a CBT and solution-focused perspective. I have found that these frameworks work wonderfully together to help identify areas in your life that are causing tension and practical ways of realizing your true self. Warmth and open-mindedness will always be at the forefront of my sessions. I would love to help you on your journey to wellness.
After receiving invaluable warmth & empathy during my own experience of therapy, I felt obliged to give back to others with the same compassion. To assist clients struggling with issues from depression & anxiety to PTSD & Bipolar Disorder, I combine an eclectic and collaborative approach rooted in attachment theory with the goal of shifting a client’s experience from survival to one of well-being. I have focused my training on serving survivors of trauma. I use my certification as a TC-Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator & training in EMDR therapy to help clients process the difficult emotions that follow surviving traumatic experiences. In addition to adults, I provide adolescents & children services, drawing upon the experience I gained during the 3 years that I served as the counselor for Greene County Georgia's school district. When not cultivating my therapy practice, I can be found playing with my dog Walter, enjoying art & music, practicing yoga, loving horses, gardening, and laughing.
Trauma Sensitive Restorative Yoga: $40/hr
As a means of survival during traumatic events the mind-body connection is severed. This disrupted connection compromises the development of one’s identity, autonomy, and ability to perceive internal sensations (aka interoception).
Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) is a movement-based practice that aims to reconnect and fortify the mind-body connection. TSY does this by using invitational language to create opportunities for choice and creating a safe space for shared authentic experiences.
Yoga for Neurodivergence: $40/hr
Current research suggests that there is a correlation between neurodivergent disorders (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc.) and certain physiological abnormalities such as joint hypermobility, connective tissue irregularities, and heightened pain sensations. These physical maladies often result in the over-use of certain muscles and the under utilization of others as a way to adapt to the compromised integrity of the connective tissues. Yoga for neurodivergence is a class engineered to provide support to over utilized muscles & strength to those that are underdeveloped, all while creating a shared authentic experience in a group setting to facilitate connection & belonging.
Life is a journey and sometimes we need help along the way to understand better and learn effective
coping techniques. In my therapy practice, I aim to help those learn these techniques through listening,
teaching, and coaching.
I have 20 years of experience working with individuals from different walks of life. My goal has always
been first and foremost to establish and cultivate a trusting relationship. Gaining a good understanding
of an individual’s struggles and where they would like assistance is the best place to begin. I utilize DBT
(Dialectical Behavior Therapy) type techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT to help individuals
learn skills to help them cope with daily life, get along with others and manage their emotions. Holding
a safe space for individuals to practice and learn these techniques and process their experiences in the
“outside world” is what leads person to feel comfortable and confident. Most commonly, I work with
people with chronic pain, personality disorders, relationship issues, co-occurring substance use
disorders, depression, and complex trauma.
I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). This intervention is useful for
processing traumatic events and negative beliefs. I am currently under supervision until I obtain my
LCSW. My supervisor is Carrie Stewart, LCSW (GA), LISW-S (OH).
I have been with my husband for 29 years and we have three daughters, a dog and a cat. I have found a
new hobby in “attempting” to garden and love to read and learn.
